Many Catholics did not want contraception to be legal because they believed that people were meant to have children if they got pregnant. As the years progressed, contraception has become a part of many people’s lives but still Catholics were not okay with this. Besides the fact that they thought it was morally wrong, they thought that if people would accidently get pregnant, abortion rates would increase which is not accepted in the Catholic Church. I chose this article because I believe that it had shown the history behind contraception. My reaction to this article was shocked. I am a member of the Catholic Church, however I do believe that people should make choices for themselves regardless of what people think or say about it. The use of birth control pills is a topic that no one can be right about. There are many risks with taking the pill on an everyday cycle or even taking the morning after pill. Older researchers believe that young women will feel like they can be more promiscuous because they have the pill as a back –up while others believe that all females should have the option to take it. An eighty year old woman had even said that she would want her young granddaughters on it because you never know what can happen, which is true. One night could change the rest of your life. I myself am on birth control and it has not given me side effects in any way. Although there are many side effects that could potentially occur, it is one of the safest ways to prevent pregnancy. Because many people are on birth control because of irregular periods or excess cramps I believe that if it were that dangerous doctors would not prescribe there patients such medicines and that they would be no longer sold. 3. This article is about a man named Timothy E. Vislocky who argued that schools giving out condoms without parental consent was like giving children cigarettes to smoke with parental consent. However Dettmann responds by saying that kids can have sex with or without a condom but kids can't smoke if they don't have a cigarette. He goes on to say that it is important to have children be aware and learn to be safe because sexual intercourse is something that frequently occurs in high school years.
I agree with Dettmann for many reasons. I know many people who are uncomfortable talking with there parents about sex or just have parents that would never even say sex around there kids. I think it is important for school to teach children about sex in there teenage years because they could end up pregnant or with a sexually transmitted infection. Also I think schools in poorer area's should be supplying students with condoms so that the teenage birth and abortion rate would decrease. 4. Analysis of a Journal Article #2

By giving this country contraception it would save about 2,100 women’s lives, 500,000 fewer abortions, and 200,000 less miscarriages. With the left over money that the country pays on all of the hospital expenses etc. it could be used to focus on more of the countries bigger problems. I think that it is extremely sad that less fortunate countries cannot afford to supply contraception for there residents however as this article pointed out, the country would end up saving money if it had. Countries like the Philippines have an extreme population because of the lack of contraception and reducing the amount of births each year could potentially stabilize the country for the better. I think it is important to help the countries that cannot afford the proper forms of birth control because although one country in the whole world does't seem like much, it could seriously benefit us all. 5. This article was about oral contraception’s. It talks about how the birth rate in the U.S. has not been this low since the Great Depression which is not a bad thing. The article also talks about the pill, injections that can be monthly, even yearly, as well as intra-uterine devices.
Again, I believe that any form of birth control is better than none. Not only are you protected for yourself but you are protected against others that may have a disease or infection. When using birth control I believe that it should be prescribed by a doctor if it is a pill and if it is not it is best to talk to a doctor when you have any questions.
